I'll swear it on my Great Liang itself - something more important to me than 'the grave of my mother', or something like that.
[ he reaches up with his free hand, and puts his hand at his heart. there's a smile on his face, still, but his tone's quite serious. ]
--But I'll expect you to do so with the same seriousness, whatever yours might be.
Besides, there's not much point in cheating, is there? I'd like to get a feel for how you look when you lie, and I'm sure you'd like to do the same for me. [ knives, pointing, etc ]
That makes two of us! So this should be easy, then.
Let's see. [ starting at the beginning, hm? he looks at his glass, tilts his head. ] I went to my first military encampment when I was... five? Six? Well, it was probably before that. I took a break from it for a few years and returned out when I was thirteen, chasing my father down to Jiangnan to serve under his wing of the military.
[ you gonna tell him which part was untrue, gu yun? ] That part was a lie - but I left to begin my chase down to Jiangnan at fifteen. You missed a lot in there, you know!

Who's to say? [ gu yun lifts his glass and smiles. ] By the way, don't think I didn't notice you didn't swear on anything.
[ foolish
anyway, moving on. ] I took control of the Black Iron Camp at 17. At the time, it was fairly useless, because the then emperor wanted the camp to have little power, and felt that Great Liang should win against her neighbors with the pen, rather than the sword. Instead of bemoaning my position, I instead invented a form of armor called Dark Armor, powered by Ziliujin and steam, and offered it to my soldiers and my soldiers alone.
I wouldn't use Her Majesty's name for something trivial.

But also he's just totally going to throw their game out the window and perk up noticeably at the mention of the armor. There's that word again, "Ziliujin"... he'll ask about it in a second, but--]
[ but anyway. dark armor is more interesting - he'd way rather talk shop about it than he'd like to talk about his history or whatever.
fuck the game, actually. leaning forward a bit, he grins. ]
It's lighter and faster than its counterparts - cutting the weight of a Light Armor almost in half, not to mention pitch black in color, instead of silver. The Ziliujin distribution comes from a golden box like a Heavy Armor, but it's smaller and harder to see, eliminating the biggest weak spot on a Heavy. It also has a shorter cooldown time between released explosives and recharge, because the cooling system is more advanced.
It takes a more skilled combatant to operate one, but in doing so, the reward is a faster, more powerful suit, that uses less Ziliujin than its counterparts. Overall, a top of the line improvement, for top of the line soldiers. [ since gu yun expects nothing less from his black crows. ]
Edited (one day ill spell ziliujin right without thinking about it ) 2021-02-07 23:45 (UTC)
It is. [ he doesn't mind confirming. ] It's a crude substance, purple in color, found underground. It's very rare - it is said that a nation with natural ziliujin deposits is sitting upon a mountain of gold.
It can be burned in crude form, or there are special substances that can be added to dilute it, though pure ziliujin is always the most effective.
very, very innocently, he says: ] This Marquis of Order is lucky to be presented with the amount of the Ziliujin that is given to him, as it is certainly enough to power an entire fleet of Dark Armor of various types.
[ he sounds a little bit annoyed, though it's mostly performative. ]
That's thing I'm finding most annoying to have been taken from me. Even without a consistent supply of ziliujin, I don't like being without it.
[ his dark armor's practically a second skin, at this point.
anyway. time to continue being a nerd and not make innuendos. ] When we first met, walking along in those shoes - Dark Armors are steam powered at the heels. It allows you to travel roughly ten steps at a time at the speed of a normal person. Walking light is a necessity, if you do it correctly, and combined with the Eagle type, it can be used as a takeoff for flight.
Childe hums, turning his gaze aside. He looks thoughtful, like he's mulling something over in his head.
Finally, he says--]
The common people of Teyvat do not possess Visions, so we've a mixture of technology and "magic", as some would say. The armories of the Fatui are filled with all manner of weapons and armor, though none quite as you describe. But much of it is made to complement its wearer's Vision.
[The super special armor only comes from the Abyss. Haha.
But he'll never say that, so--]
Perhaps it was foolish of me, but I'd assumed I would have access to my own Vision. With it, I don't need to carry physical weapons, though I often do anyway.
[ hmm. interesting. this is much more interesting than anything about the harbingers or whatever, because he really doesn't care that much, short of getting a picture of the person in front of him.
gu yun sips his drink, thoughtful. ]
Not so foolish, I don't think. It seems more unnatural that it would just be stripped away. What's your Vision do - you mentioned creating your own weapons before.
[Childe also thinks this is way more interesting than his shitty coworkers so they're all on the same page here.]
Mine is a Hydro Vision--the element of water. I use mine to create weapons, for the most part, but in theory, I can make whatever I like. Within reason, of course.
Mm, I don't really have a preference. [More like he prefers creating whatever weapons he wants lmao] The weapons I form are made of water, yes. They lose form when I disperse them.
[He smiles; somehow, it conveys the idea that isn't even the half of it.
But that's beyond the trade he's been offered, so he just reaches for the bottle to pour them both more vodka.]
It's alright. Challenges keep things interesting. [says Childe "I handicap myself for fun" Tartaglia.] But I would've preferred to agree to it myself, you know?

I see... and you managed to get your hands on enough of it to make your armor? [If it's so rare and all.] Or was it provided to you?
[Sounds unlikely, if the emperor he speaks of didn't want to fight, but... then again, leaders often value enterprise, so. He'd believe either.]
