[lenore is seated at the piano, idly plucking at the keys in an experimental way. she stops when he addresses her.]

Gu Yun. [she looks over to greet him with a faint smile.]

You may want to be careful. It seems the men closest to me keep finding their way to an early grave.

[ awwwww sweetheart.

he comes in, nudging the door shut behind him. ]

Well. I happen to be pretty hardy. [ ... ] I'm sorry for your loss, Lenore - though, I wouldn't count Law out just yet. Anything can happen tomorrow.

[sistocracy]

[she turns around on the piano bench so she can sit while facing him fully.]

Thank you. He's the last person I'd want to see killed here, but... I'm afraid I don't have very high hopes for tomorrow.

[liuli]

I can't blame you. [ considering no executioner has ever gotten killed!

gu yun makes his way over, though, coming to sit nearby. ] ...Law's a good man. You knew about this happening, right...?

[sistocracy]

Yes. [she smiles, a little weakly.]

You, too?

[liuli]

[ he shakes his head. ]

I didn't. I can't say Law told me much. But... I don't blame you, for wanting to help, either.

The situation seemed immensely complicated.

[sistocracy]

Oh. I thought you might have seen, being his roommate. He did such a terrible job of hiding it.

[she cups a hand over her mouth, smiling fondly.]

You know, he just... showed up at my place yesterday, fingers red and arms scratched up. Acting normal.

[liuli]

[ he. can't help but laugh a little, because he can completely picture that. ]

I wasn't in the room much this week. [ gestures in cyoa return ] I'm sure he played it off, as if nothing were wrong, right?

[sistocracy]

He came for a house call. Doctor's business. Didn't say a thing until we were about finished, and I finally asked.

And then he just... said it. I mean, who does that?

[liuli]

[ dryly, a little fondly: ] Someone with a name like "Law", perhaps?

[sistocracy]

[that gets a short laugh out of her.]

God. I'm going to miss him.

I would have done anything to prevent what happened today... but against a trap like that, there was no hope.

[liuli]

Mmm.

[ ... ]

He's really someone who sticks to his convictions. That's an admirable trait, I think.

[sistocracy]

It is...

[there's an unspoken 'but' that hangs in the air for a bit...]

I think I'd be more impressed if he could stay alive while doing it. I'm sure he had good reasons for what he did, but... still.

[liuli]

Still. [ yeah. law was... ]

He was forthcoming about it. Respectable in its own right, but, honor comes with consequences.

[ and in this case, consequences are very, very severe. ] I asked him earlier if it was worth it, and he said it was. I suppose that's all there is to it.

[sistocracy]

[she smiles softly at that.]

Yes. I suppose so. I'm glad... if he doesn't have any regrets.

Though if he did, I doubt he'd say as much.

[liuli]

Likely not. [ gu yun huffs, a little laugh. ] He's very stubborn, isn't he?

[sistocracy]

He is.

[she shifts in her seat a bit.]

...I want to thank you, Gu Yun. For talking with me. It's nice, knowing that someone understands.

Perhaps next time we meet, it will be under better circumstances.
