...I'm getting rather tired of the technicalities of this place, and I don't like the idea of punishing people on what-ifs or past or perceived future actions, either.
I didn't feel like it was the wrong theory until I was proven otherwise. The more that happened through the trial, the more off I felt about him, and my instincts aren't typically wrong. I think it was likely he was going to hurt someone, either through his actions or through his words at a trial, or both.
So. I can't say I feel guilty about it, really. I didn't feel guilty about choosing HK-47, either.
