Mm, I'm not a forensic expert, but, from what I understand, luminol is a chemical that glows when it reacts with blood, and can be used to find trace amounts at a scene where the blood has been cleaned up.
DNA is... well, it's what you're made up of. The genetic data that makes you... you. If something like a hair or the killers blood is found at the scene, their DNA can be sequenced from it and potentially matched with someone.
[ he thinks chang geng would probably think this is really interesting, actually. seems like the kind of thing he'd soak up by the second... ]
I can tell you that we do catch those who kill in my time, but not through those methods. Though... I'm not sure how much the latter would've helped us, today.
Not unless they had some sort of magical... eating ability? Like Steven said, the logistics of eating an entire body just don't line up with the amount of time they had.
I feel like whenever you hear stories about cannibals getting caught by the police, they always have body parts in their freezer and such because they can't eat it all in one sitting.
Maybe. We should ask the avatars if they'd actually provide someone with that much lye. Though, actually, maybe that would take too long? I don't know how long it takes to dissolve a corpse in lye.

You know, I was wondering, what if these murders can't be solved without forensic technology?

[ 'forensic technology' what does he look like a ling shu techie!!! ]

Ah, right. Things like fingerprint matching, luminol, dna evidence... there's a lot of modern methods we don't have access to here.

...What's luminol? And DNA?

It does beg the question. Do you think someone really might've eaten him?
[ he doesn't even want to consider if that's reality but also. ]

Never mind, never mind, I don't want to think about it. Gods, I hope that isn't what happened.
