Haha! I've heard that before. [ being a child of great skill and talent, huh... ] Believe me, his family name can't get any higher than it already is. Not mine, but the one that belongs to him originally - my care for him is only until he turns of age, before he'll join his extended family once more.

Oh? In that case, why were you chosen when he comes from a family that outranks yours?

Well, he is the fourth prince, and I am the head of the Black Iron Camp - that is to say, the emperor's armed forces.

Ah, I see! So you were expected to train him, then? It doesn't sound as though it went very well.

[ he laughs, taking another bite of his food. ]

No, not particularly. Are all children trained to battle where you're from? No scholars?

[fisherwoman]

Not all of them! Just ones from families with high aspirations.

[She taps her chin, thinking of the best way to elaborate on that.]

You see, a family's worth is determined by how many rankers or princesses they have. In order to become a ranker, you have to pass a series of increasingly difficult tests of strength and strategy... Well over one hundred tests in total. And princesses are even more rare! One is only chosen every few hundred of years to represent the greatest family in the tower, the Jahads.

[ bangs hands for tower of god lore.

gu yun listens to this, his attention caught, dissecting the information... and then, that grin on his face spreads a little further. ]

And I'm speaking with one, aren't I? Miss Jahad.

[fisherwoman]

[She giggles, like she didn't purposefully use that namedrop after remembering he already knew her first name.]

You're correct! I'm one of the girls who managed to qualify for that position.

Well! [ mischief brightens up his expression -- gu yun makes an exaggerated motion of bowing where he's sitting. ] My dearest apologies, your highness.

I've met a few princesses in my time, but this is the first I've met one who was a princess by combat. Are you wanting everyone around you to know that you're royalty, or is that a secret?

[ im getting deja vu and i hate this ]

[fisherwoman]

[She looks pleased by the bow and just as pleased by the title, resting her cheek in her palm.]

It's unbecoming to mention it out of nowhere! But I'm not making an effort to hide it, either.

Haha. You'd think this sort of thing would be mentioned in those little 'contacts'.

[ then again, everything makes more since with an explanation, so. he winks. ] Your not-secret's safe with me. We've got more royalty here than I was certainly expecting - I have to wonder if there are any other secret princes and princesses in our midst.

[fisherwoman]

Ah, I wonder if it was part of the criteria... Or at least a piece of what they considered when deciding who they would extend this offer to.

[liuli]

Perhaps there's a certain level of "extraordinary" involved.

[fisherwoman]

That would make sense! I haven't met anyone I would quite call normal, for better or for worse.

[liuli]

You know what they say - go big or go home. I suppose it's a compliment.

[ maybe. ] Though I'd be quite interested to know how they were able to learn about us so thoroughly, especially considering how very different everyone's worlds seem to be.

[fisherwoman]

[She taps her chin, thoughtful.]

Omnipotent, maybe? They certainly seemed powerful, considering how they brought us all here.
