Do not call spirit calling "only once removed" from what a bone adept does. They are entirely different disciplines, one far superior.

It's less academic; there's no theory to it, it's mostly wild guesswork. Even supposed experts barely have any sense of what they're doing, outside the incredibly rare River scholar. I've only met one spirit caller worth a damn in my entire life. The rest are just - toying with liminal spaces and spirit energy, hoping to hit on the desired results. Likely creating dangerous revenants as they go. And don't get me started on soul siphoning; not only is it incredibly irresponsible if done by lesser talents, by which I mean the entire school of practitioners of it, but it simply leads to laziness. If all you have to do is reach out and borrow some of your cavalier's life energy, you'll never develop decent fundamentals.

Even flesh magicians have more respect from me. There's little to interest one in meat, but at least it requires some technical prowess to execute properly. One must study it, not simply grasp blindly at things one cannot see.

And before you suggest it is because I do not have the aptitude - I'm better at siphoning than any necromancer the Eighth has ever produced, and better at spirit calling than nearly any other necromancer to ever live. And that is how I know it to be stupid.
