[ in a way, this worked out great, because it eliminates some of the awkwardness that comes from wednesday - if gu yun had any reservations, they're gone when he gets word of what happened in the kitchen.
he comes to find harrow in her room later in the evening, once some of the initial hubbub has settled down - like the others, he's worried, even if he's bad at saying so. ]
...How's your leg? Are you alright? [ comes his voice, eventually, as gu yun pokes his head into the room. very good start. 0/10. ]
If you're in pain, don't be an infant and own up to it.
[ he doesn't sound particularly exasperated, or even trying to be obnoxious. just!! returning the favor from the other day, as he pushes the door shut and makes his way over, squatting down in front of harrow. ]
[ defiant is fine. gu yun doesn't back off from it, staying where he's settled for the moment. all business, no emotion, though the damage comment gets a nod. ]
What sort of creature? Asked to fight something without the sorts of powers and abilities you have normally at your disposal, wouldn't anyone be caught off guard?
[She's still defiant, but it's a little more teenage, sulky.]
I have a condition, of sorts. It was triggered, and I became unable to fight. I'm not so foolish as to run in expecting to do necromancy when I cannot.
[ wow the timing of these two threads back to back is impeccable
he snorts, darkly, moving from a squat to sit down, instead, relaxing a little more. ]
That makes two of us. [ it still makes him extremely uncomfortable, that someone in the world knows about his little secret, that isn't shen yi or doctor chen, but... there's no going back from it, now. with his ability to lie about it restored back to him, now, he can at least see dimly, but there's no telling when the medicine he has will finally wear off.
at least, in this situation, it's... tentatively, something to bond over. a moment of trust he can make a dark joke about is a lot. he Gets It. ] Start at the beginning. Where were you all?
[She doesn't need to acknowledge it further than that - she understands his meaning. She's fairly open about this, among those she trusts. And she might even bring it up in the other thread so that would be a bummer.]
. . . We suddenly appeared somewhere else. Nowhere on the station. It was a realm belonging to giants.
In order to escape, we had to travel through the realm. The giants were hungry, and sought to eat us. Some of the giants looked. . . familiar to the others. This is when my condition was triggered, and I was nearly devoured.
I. . . I don't wish to speak of something that affected the others. I didn't recognize them myself. [So - yes, familiar like people they knew before, that's obvious enough from context, but she's not going to go so far as to betray her groupmates' secrets.]
[ he nods, to that, expression serious, but appreciative nonetheless. that's helpful, and he gets it, he wouldn't rat out somebody's personal feelings, either. gu yun doesn't make a mention of her condition, because. gestures up a PC. ]
That's alright. [ hmm. giants randomly appearing as people from home. bad. ] And it wasn't illusory, if it left that much viscera on the lot of you, compared to the things we've seen in the base so far, either.
You all came back with different things. Was that part of your way out?
No, it wasn't illusory. [She's relieved that he doesn't think so, either.] We came out with items - I think they may belong to someone here. [But she hasn't asked the Avatars about them yet, so she can't say for sure.
Anyway, at the second question, she squeezes her eyes shut.]
One request. Please do not ask about the way out. [. . .] Only know that if this was a test, I'm certain that we failed.
[ gu yun nods in acknowledgement, then focuses on the question itself. ] One of the Avatars? Or someone else? [ hmmmm....] There were the hats, the toys...
[ and a few other things? it was hard to recall under all of that gore. anyway. there's a pause, as he watches her react, dark eyes briefly scanning over her face, and those squeezed eyes. ]
...alright. [ just a brief acknowledgement, softened in tone. he won't ask. ] You all came back alive, if injured, and back to the rest of us.
[ and it was real, too.
... ] Thanks for the report, Harrow. I imagine there'll be more 'tests' yet to come.
The hats I'm not sure have any meaning, but the other items felt. . . meaningful. There's no other way to put it.
[She blanches a little at something else he says, but she doesn't bring up what it was. She is cleaned up now, at least, from the gore, though she's still visibly moving gingerly, and - well, she's clothed from head to foot, so if there are other injuries it's hard to see, but the fact that her outside ribs look crunched probably means something bad.
But more than that, she just has a shaky vibe. Honestly, it's more evident in her voice than anything else.]
I imagine so, too. I mean to learn from the Avatars more of what happened, so. . . I will certainly tell you what I find.
Don't strain yourself - do so after you've gotten some care for your injuries. The Avatars aren't going anywhere.
[ though... admittedly... it was good to get to learn quickly what was happening, and that was probably what he would've done in the same situation! what is self care.
the blanching doesn't go unnoticed, and neither does the shakiness of her voice. it's a soldier after a brutal battle, the sort of post-trauma he's seen a thousand times. gu yun's quiet for a moment longer, almost like he wants to approach it, and decides, ultimately, not to. if it's not particularly relevant to the matters at hand - the transportation, the monsters, the what of what happened - then, he won't pry further than necessary. ]
. . . Yes. I won't leave myself vulnerable before nightfall.
[All of these decisions must be practical. Find out what happened, for the sake of any others who wander somewhere they weren't meant to be. Heal herself, so she isn't a target at night. It's easier to think this way.
That he doesn't press her for further details does not go unnoticed.]
Not at the moment. There's so little time left, if the events of last week are to happen again.
thursday week 1 i feel like one of those spongebob end cards. TWO HOURS LATER...

I'm fine.
[I'm still waiting on info on the healing, so. Let's see how fine.]

I was caught off guard by a creature. The damage isn't life threatening.
